About this Site
Most home buyers, home sellers and real estate investors are curious about the real estate market. How's my market doing? Is there a real estate bubble? Is the bubble ready to pop?
HotHousingMarkets.com can help answer some of these questions as it accurately presents real estate price trend data provided by the OFHEO. It's easy to see how your market is doing compared to others. You can view your area by itself or you can compare your area to others on the same chart.
Of course no one can predict what your real estate market will do in the future. To begin that task you need much more local data including migration, jobs, building permit data and more.
What We Do
We present price trend data for metropolitan areas in the United States. The data covers 379 metropolitan areas, nine Census Bureau Divisions and the United States as a whole. This data is updated quarterly and is provided by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. We present it in an easy to understand chart form.
You can start by using this data to find metropolitan areas of interest. Then use the resources in the right column on each page to drill into more detail related to the area. Typically these resources will lead you to house listings, mortgage information, . . . etc.
Helpful Hints
There are four ways to get to the data:
Use one of the links in either the "Biggest Gainers" or "Biggest Losers" sections if your just curious to see how the metropolitan areas rank over time. Once there, click a metropolitan area's name to get more detailed information.
If you want to see charts for a single metropolitan area and you know the area then Search by Metro. Once there, just choose an area from the drop down box.
If you're not sure that your metropolitan area of interest is being tracked or if you're not sure of it's exact name then Search by State. Here we sort all metropolitan areas by state first so they're easier to find.
And finally, you can Compare Areas. Here you can see any two metropolitan areas on the same chart to see how they stack up against each other.
So enjoy the site. It will be update every quarter as the new OFHEO figures are released.
